Hi! I’m Sam, and One Small Kitchen is an evolving collection of simple, real food recipes. It’s the stuff I cook from my small city kitchen. I try to live consciously and cook the same way. Using whole foods. Mostly plants. Learning from traditional wisdom. And trusting my intuition.

I’ve cooked on sailing boats and love to cook for others, but now mostly just cook for my bethrothed and I. I cook intuitively and don’t always follow recipes to the letter. I started this blog in 2010 as a way of recording the oft spontaneous stuff I cook.

So, why ‘One Small Kitchen’? My kitchen is literally small! But this ‘smallness’ also reflects my food ethics. I try to minimise the environmental impacts of my food choices and practices by making do, avoiding excess and re-using or recycling waste. And at the same time, recognising naturally occurring abundance, delighting in simplicity. And eating for wellbeing.

So. Aside from growing (in pots), dreaming about, and making food, I write, and mess around with photography and making things. I love to travel as much as I love staying still. I also have a very un-glamorous life behind a desk. It’s a step on the road to a long-dreamed, self-sufficient, small-farm life.
